Mossgate

Private AI for biotech and research labs

You can see what AI could do.
Getting it into your lab is another matter.

You’ve tried it yourself. You can imagine what it could do for your team. But your research is proprietary, your workflows are controlled, and years of experimental data live inside your environment.

Putting AI to work here is a different challenge.

The roadblocks

What’s standing in the way?

  • “We can’t send that information outside the company.”
  • “There’s too much data to keep uploading.”
  • “We’d need infrastructure and expertise we don’t have.”
  • “This sounds like a project we can’t afford.”

Those constraints are real. They don’t have to put AI out of reach.

A practical way forward

Your work can’t move to AI. AI can move to your work.

Your research, systems, and workflows have reasons to stay where they are. Mossgate brings a dedicated AI system into your environment, where it can work with the information and tools your team relies on.

  • Work with the full context.Connect research records, instrument data, inventory, and schedules so AI can help with work that spans your lab.
  • Keep control of what happens.Decide what the system can access, which actions it can take, and where your team reviews the result.
  • Begin with one useful workflow.Start with a clear purpose, an agreed cost, and room to build as you see what works.

Imagine it in your lab

What could your team do with AI that knows your working environment?

Find information across years of research. Keep track of equipment and supplies. Bring the right evidence together for a decision, then follow through on the work that comes next.

Illustrative workflows below. Each deployment is configured and tested against the tasks and systems agreed with your team.

01 / Find

“We’ve seen this result before. Where?”

Bring relevant experiment records, run notes, and analysis together. Trace a result back to its context, with sources your scientists can inspect.

Method changes
Protocol versions and run conditions shown alongside the results.
Supporting analysis
Relevant notebooks and code available for review.

Sources: experiment records, protocol history, analysis notebooks.

02 / Understand

“What could interrupt next week’s work?”

Look across inventory, maintenance, and schedules. Surface the small operational problems that can hold up a run, while there is still time to address them.

Illustrative result · the week ahead

Reagent stock
Available quantity is below the demand in the current plan.
Instrument service
Maintenance is due before a scheduled run.
Schedule overlap
Two teams have requested the same instrument time.

Sources: inventory, maintenance register, instrument calendar.

03 / Act

“The plan changed. What needs to happen next?”

Identify affected bookings, supplies, and team tasks. Prepare the next steps, request review where required, and carry out approved updates through connected tools.

Illustrative workflow · a revised run plan

  1. Check the dependenciesFind related instrument bookings, inventory, and assigned tasks.
  2. Prepare the changesPropose revised bookings and task dates for the team to review.
  3. Follow throughApply approved updates and record what changed in each system.

Connected tools operate within the permissions your team sets.

Start with your work

What would you put it to work on first?

Bring us a workflow your team wishes AI could help with. We’ll talk through what’s possible, what it would need, and whether a focused first deployment makes sense.

How it fits

Built around your environment. Controlled by your team.

The system runs on dedicated hardware at your site and connects to the internal data and tools you approve. Your IT team can inspect the connections, permissions, and operating procedures. Internet access is blocked by default.

Your internal network Illustrative local deployment
Your teamApproved users and roles
Local AI systemModels, agent environment, and tools
Connected lab systemsData stores, instruments, and inventory

Model processing, knowledge stores, tool use, and workflows stay inside this boundary. No external model provider is required.

The work stays inside your network

The local system stores its retrieval indexes and knowledge graphs, uses tools, and executes workflows within your environment. Your data and the results of that work are not sent to an external model provider.

Connections are documented

The manifest identifies approved internal endpoints and the restrictions on each connection. External access is blocked by default.

You control access

You hold the admin credentials, encryption keys, and configurations. Your team defines which tools the system can use, what it can change, and where human review is required. Maintenance access requires your approval and can be revoked.

Isolated installations are available

For stricter environments, an air-gapped installation is designed separately, with controlled data transfer and maintenance procedures agreed from the start.

Maintenance is part of the design. Updates, backups, and support follow a documented procedure agreed with your IT team. Any exception to the network policy requires your approval.

Do we need a server room full of GPUs?

A single, purpose-built machine can be enough to get started. The hardware is selected for your workloads, data, and number of users. We define the requirements and cost before you commit to a deployment.

Can Mossgate also work with cloud models?

Yes, where your policies allow them. That is a separate deployment with its own data flows and controls; the local-processing commitments above describe the on-premises offering.

How Mossgate delivers

Start with a useful first deployment.

  1. 30-minute callDiscuss fit and constraints
  2. 90-minute assessmentReview workflows and controls
  3. Written proposalAgree scope, hardware, and cost
01 / Assess

Suitability assessment

A 90-minute working session to identify useful workflows, the data they need, and the controls they require. You receive a written findings memo, including where further review is needed. You keep it whether or not you hire us.

Assessment scope and any fee are agreed before the session.

Pilot conditions: approved documents only, existing access permissions, source references, and staff review of summaries. Autonomous batch release is outside this proposed pilot.

02 / DEPLOY

Private deployment

A local model, an agent environment, and connected tools on dedicated hardware sized for your workloads. We build retrieval and knowledge graphs where useful, define permissions and review points, and test the agreed workflows. Documentation and staff training are part of the handover.
